Rob Manfred: “Baseball Will Come Back”

The Commissioner of Major League Baseball, Rob manfred, is open to ideas on how to handle the return of baseball after the pause for the coronavirus pandemic ends.

Manfred noted the conversations the league has had with the MLB Players Association. He said to Van Pelt,we probably can’t do»A season of 162 games:«I think it’s clear«.

Manfred also noted that the league was optimistic for a comeback in May, according to Evan Drelich of The Athletic:

In addition to that the MLB may delay the draft from June 10 to 12, players can receive pro-rated salaries in a shorter season and receive the same length of service for 2020 as in 2019, even if the season is canceled.

It would mean that players like Mookie Betts, Trevor Bauer, Marcus Stroman, George Springer Y JT Realmuto They could become free agents next offseason, even if there are no games this year.

Jeff Passan said MLB is aiming for a June start date where players would participate in a shortened spring training in May, but noted that a later date is also up for grabs.
