The capital mayors and municipalities of Mexico that make up the eastern part of the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico not only are they dealing with the high number of infections of Covid-19, sino also with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking or asthma, which suffer from 54% of the 2,797 confirmed cases of the virus in the region until April 28, according to data from the federal Ministry of Health.
In these 13 mayors and municipalities, more than 9 million Mexicans live, which makes it more difficult to stop the mobility of all, and for this reason is that the governments of Ecatepec and Nezahualcóyotl announced on April 29 coordinated measures to try to stop the advance of the virus. .
This decision was made days after the region was classified as a red focus of infection with 27 cases for every 100,000 inhabitants. This figure falls short when reviewing only the data of the four mayors of Mexico City (Iztacalco, Venustiano Carranza, Gustavo A. Madero and Iztapalapa), which have rates of between 40 and 56 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
But when analyzing the detail of confirmed patients and their diseases, the municipalities of the State of Mexico that are part of the eastern part of the ZMVM are the ones that lead the numbers.

These two conditions have positioned themselves as the main ills in the country’s mayoralties.
Another example is Iztapalapa, where 170 of the 724 patients also suffer from obesity, according to the analysis of data from the federal Ministry of Health.
